I didn't really have much to do, so I researched some stuff about that amulet. When it came about time to get ready for the dance, I skyped Danny on my laptop."Hey. You ready yet?" I saw Tucker struggling with his bow tie in the background.
"Tie straight, shirt tucked in, unbreakable ghost fishing line tucked neatly away just in case," He collapsed the fishing rod into his jacket. "What's taking so long with that dragon research, Sam?" I just had to find that website again...
"Alright, Jeez! Here, I'm sending you the link." The boys stared at their screen for a bit.
"That's it!" I heard a click. "Medieval ghostly legend held that the cursed amulet of Aragon could transform any wearer into dragon form under states of extreme emotional distress or anger. That's the amulet I gave to Paulina! It must have accidentally fallen into my backpack! Wait..I'm going on a date with a dragon?" Danny looked worried. I smiled.
"Like I said, looks are decieving. I'm sure you boys will have a wonderful evening." I cut the transmission. Too bad it was only the necklace that was evil. I was hoping Paulina was a ghost in disguise.
I started playing some music. I was about to blast it louder when I heard a knock on the door. I opened the door halfway and peered out to see.. "Tucker? What are you doing here? Where's Valerie?"
"She kinda canceled on me. Do you think we could go together? You know, as...friends?" I was trying really hard to suppress my grin. I...didn't want to go. The dance was a stupid social gathering that was an excuse for a date. I didn't...ah! Who was I kidding?
"Uh...I don't know...This is so last-minute...and I do have...plans, and-"
"Well, I understand if you don't wanna go..."
"Okay! But only because you got stood up! I'll go change into that dumb dress I wasn't gonna wear!" I slammed the door and raced up the stairs as quickly as I could. I don't think I've ever gotten changed that fast before. I actually really liked this dress. It was really goth for my parents...no flowers, no bright colours. I also got my hair done up nice.I was almost too excited to notice that Tucker was acting more like Danny than himself... I rushed back down the stairs as quickly as I could without tripping and opened the door.
Tucker was turned around, as if talking to somebody. He heard the door open and turned around. A wide grin grew on his face. "Come on, or we're gonna be late!" I grabbed Tucker's hand and dragged him down the steps of my porch. He yelped, but I didn't slow down in the least bit. When we got there, the music had already started. Mr. Lancer was walking around with his copy of 'How to Sound Hip for the Unhip.' I turned around to see Danny and Paulina over by the punch bowl. Danny looked at me for a split second, as if making a quick decision. I turned back to the party.
Me and Tucker were watching the other kids dance.
"So...you really wanted to come didn't you?" I blushed.
"Of course not...I just figured it would be more fun here. There's nothing to do back at my place." I had already bowled with my parents and taken a private jet to japan last weekend. It was getting pretty boring around there.
"Well, it wasn't actually my idea to ask you. Danny-" Mr. Fenton ran up to us.
"Tucker, Sam, We've got trouble."
"We had nothing to do with it Mr. Fenton, it was all Danny's idea!" Way to take one for the team, Tuck.
"Tucker! It's me! It's Danny!" He handed us walkie-talkies. "Sam, you try to help me find Paulina. Tucker, keep an eye on my Dad. If he starts talking to anyone, page me, got it?" He walked back into the crowd.
"This dance gets better and better with every passing minute." I ran off toward the gym's entrance. I faced away from it and hoped Paulina wouldn't recognize me. She passed by and I waited a few seconds before following. If I followed too close she might suspect me. "Danny! I've got her."
"Stay on her. I'm on my way. And Sam? Don't make her angry." I put the plastic rectangle back into my handbag and followed her into the bathroom. She was fixing her hair.
"Hey, Paulina. Nice dress." She turned to face me.
"Yes. And it goes so nicely with your amulet. Don't you think?"
"My amulet? That's not my-" That's probably what Danny used as a cover story. "Right. Listen, my grandma gave me that amulet, and-"
"Forget it, sweety. I'm not givin' up this trinket. Or your little boyfriend, Danny."
"My boyfriend? HA HA! And they say pretty girls can't be funny. Danny is not my boyfriend." She raised an eyebrow.
"He's not?" I put my hand on my hip.
"He's my best friend. Maybe that's why I was so hard on you. I didn't mean to call you shallow."
"What a bummer! I only agreed to go out with him because I thought I was stealing him from you! Here! Take your crummy amulet," She put it on me. Oh, she was about to get it! "I'm going to dump your dorky friend!" Now would've been a good time to take off the amulet, but I let the rage consume me. Time for that shallow witch to feel my wrath!

"Sam, are you alright?" I was on the ground. I put a hand on my head.
"Wow. Did I have fun at the dance?" Danny offered his hand to help me up.
"Well, uh, heh heh! Let's just say you had a roaring time." I smiled and took his hand. Oh, yeah! I remember. Paulina gave me the amulet and then she was a total...witch. After that, though, I suppose I was a dragon. I don't remember what that was like. I followed him back inside, dizzy. The gym was clearing out.
"Dude, sorry your date didn't pan out. Where is Paulina, anyway?" Oh, no. Dead? I don't hate her that much. I looked behind me. She was being hit on by Dash Baxter.
"Ahh, who cares? Look, the DJ's still playing." I turned back around to face Danny. "And I think there's time for one last dance."
"Sure, I'd love to. Keep an eye on this, will ya?" Danny handed the amulet to Tucker. We started slow dancing in the remnants of decorations.
"Promise me you'll keep your pants up?" I smiled. Danny smiled too.
"I'll do my best." I hugged him closer and nestled my head into his shoulder. Danny was so warm, and he didn't smell like BO. It was...nice.
