Danny and Tucker were out for some 'Male Bonding' time, leaving me alone. Well, not really. I was usually surrounded with well-paid nurses that freaked out every time I sneezed. What a way to spend a Friday... I hated being sick. I mostly slept, but I did start season four of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I had no idea what they were doing, even though I'm sure they told me at some point. I was just too wiped out to remember. Later, I received a message from Tucker. <Danny has a new ghost power!>
<Sweet! Can he multiply or something?>
<No, It's a ray-thing. This ghost appeared while we were down at the flea market and he was all like PEW PEW!>
<Aww. Too bad I missed it. I've always wanted to go to the flea market, but my parents never let me. I would've come If I wasn't so sick.>
<Are you too sick to come to the football game tomorrow?>
<I'll never be healthy enough for that.>
<Danny's gonna be there!> I thought for a minute. I hadn't spent a weekend with Danny for a while.
<Oh, Fine then!>
<And you say that he's 'just a friend'.>
<HE IS! I'm going back to sleep.>
< ;-P >
<Eye roll.> I shut my computer and plugged it in, then slid it onto my desk. I promptly fell asleep.
It was Saturday, and Tucker and I were at the Ravens football game. I was seriously sick. Like, cold sweating under a blanket sick. I was told Danny would be here, but I didn't see him. I sneezed. " I'm sick as a dog and I hate sports." I faced Tucker."Why am I here?" My voice was extremely nasal. I sounded like Rebecca Black, except better.
"Because Danny's here!" Where? I saw Danny not. "And he's got the best seat in the house!" What was Tucker talking about? I really just wanted to get home and sleep. The microphone turned on.
"AND NOW EVERYBODY, HERE THEY ARE-" The raven mascot was jumping up and down, waving its arms. "YOUR VERY OWN, CASPER HIIIIIIIGH RAVENS!!!!" The mascot was trampled as the football team came out onto the field. The plush raven head had lost its beak, revealing Danny's face. I'm pretty sure a normal kid would be...broken by now. It was Danny's ghost half that was keeping him not broken. Definetly the best seat. By far. The game started, and Dash caught the first kick. He got dogpiled every time he touched the ball. Karma has its ways.
"This is pathetic!" Tucker threw up his arms dramatically. "This team is fading fast." He put down his arms in defeat. I sneezed forcefully, almost falling off of my seat.
"Me too." I clutched my blanket tighter around myself and stood up. "I'm outta here! Later." I almost fell down the stairway of the bleachers and sniffled all the way home.
I think it was Sunday. I slept so much, I had no idea what the date was. I was only awake because someone was on the phone for me. "Hello?"
<Hey, Sam! How's it going?>
"Hey, Danny." I sneezed all over the phone.
"I feel like I'm gonna die. I hate being sick!" I sneezed, almost dropping the phone.
<Hang in there, Sam. Tucker and I will stop by after we're done at the mall. Do you want us to bring you anything?> I couldn't ask. It's not like I didn't already have everything.
"No, No. Please don't bother." My grandma walked in with a bowl of noodle soup, followed by an entire ER room. "My folks are taking pretty good care of me." I slid the phone away from my head. "Guys, It's just a cold!" One of the doctors came in with defibrillators and yelled CLEAR! He always had the best sense of humour. "You guys go have fun. Don't worry about me for now."
<Okay...See you later! We'll have to rent Dead Teacher IV for you. Bye.> And then came a montage of medication, soup, and sleep. And then Tucker skyped me.
<Hey. Still sick, I see. I like your bathrobe.> I adjusted it to make sure I was completely covered up.
"Hey. How was the movie?"
<I didn't see one today. We probably can't come over.. It's pretty late already.> I checked out my window. So it was.
"So, why didn't you go see a movie today?"
<Uhh... We got a little distracted. I'm just goofin' off by myself now.>
"What happened? Danny have ghost trouble?"
<You might say that. So, how are ya?>
"Ugh, it's horrible Tucker. I-ACHOO! But somehow I'll muddle through it." I closed the laptop and picked up my remote. It was music time. I turned it up as loud as it would go, hoping to clear my sinuses a bit.
I woke up again when Danny came over. I was starting to doubt that either of the guys were going to show up. He said it was Sunday today, and that he was going to go to a movie yesterday. "They told me to bring you this soup." I took the steaming bowl, accidentally clanking the spoon around. I put it on my tray.
"*Sniff* Thanks. It was starting to get lonely up here." Danny looked around at my giant room.
"I still can't get over the fact that you're rich. I'd love to be sick if I lived here."
"Oh, believe me, the sparkle wears off. Especially when you can't do anything. My parents won't go down to The Skulk and Lurk to pick up Vampires; A History. They won't let me read anything they deem unreasonable." I was about to sneeze, but it subsided. I couldn't wait to get out of this bed. "So, what happened with Tucker? I thought you guys were going to see Dead Teacher." Danny rubbed the back of his neck.
"Well, Tucker kind of..."
"Daniel! Your parents are on the phone." My mother walked up the stairs then outstretched her arm, holding the phone through my door frame.
"Hey mom."
"Yeah."
"Oh. Well, I wanted to hang out with her. She's been sick all week."
"...No Mother! I don't...like her that way." I was pretty sure he didn't want me to hear that part. He had cupped his hand around his mouth and almost whispered, but I totally heard it. I was also unsure whether or not I liked or resented that... "Okay, well next time tell me earlier. See you in ten." He hung up and turned to look at me, a little disappointed. "Sorry, Sam. My sister's trying to get us on the news or something and I gotta be there." I sneezed loudly. "Gross! Well, anyway, I'll see you later. Get better soon!"
"See you." Well, there goes my explanation. Tucker said that Danny was having ghost problems, and Danny said he was having Tucker problems. Knowing Tuck, he probably let all the ghosts out of the thermos again, and if I asked him, he'd never admit to it.
At least I didn't have to go to school. My class lineup this semester was awful. But I did get better. As soon as I was well again, I got a text from Tucker saying that they were both sick. Tucker's parents were away for the weekend, and Danny's sister didn't want to get sick, so I had to cater to them both. I thought it would be easier on me if they were both in the same place, so I got Danny's parents to drive him to tucker's house. It looked like they both caught my cold. I brought two bowls of soup to them and they both sneezed at the same time. "Jeez, do you guys have to share everything?"
"Yeah. Even ghost powers." I set down the soup. So there was something I missed out on!
"What?"
"This wishing ghost attacked, and I guess Tucker was jealous of my ghost powers. Except he was abusing his powers." Danny slurped his soup.
"No! I wanted to help you out, man."
"Yeah, tell that to your giant green ghost-self." I stood there, staring catatonic as I tried to process this. I sat down.
"Okay, you're going to have to explain it again."
